On the hunt for rogue Instances of the Doctor, and their old experimental AI Trogdor, Captain Orkin decides to deliver the two packages they have for the Darrian confederation while they are in the neighborhood. VUD engages in some Jump Drones research in the Beater system, trying to bounce the jump-bubbles of two drones off of each other… in Jump-space! He hopes that these bounced-Jumps will eventually result in extended jump capabilities. The drones were successfully insterted into jump on collision courses, both in the Beater and Anduril systems (both former Swordwolds, Anduril is now part of the Narsil Accord, while Beater is now an Imperial “Holding”).
Rogue Expeditionary Force One entered the Darrian Confederation at Spume and immediately began telepathic, then in-person, communication with a Captain Evin Illrick of the Special Arm of the Darrian Military. He was expecting them… but not one of their packages, which turned out the be the missing triggering mechanism for a functioning Star Trigger. The notably panicked Captain Illrick requested that the Rogues travel with him to Mire, the capital of the Darrian Confederation to consult with his superiors.
Though Orkin and Captain Illrick were delayed by a time-dilation distortion and arrived almost a week later than Lieutenant Redshirt’s CNS Frey Bug, they eventually arrived to meet with the still unnammed Special Arm Colonel who had been hosting Fermi and crew for a week.
Behind closed doors newly self-promoted Commodore Orkin revealed his true intentions to his chief officers and a few Darrian Special Arms officers… and a deal was made, a potentially star shattering deal.
The Rogues spent a few weeks living in luxury on the fabulous Sky City of Mire, with allied ambassadorial privileges and status. They also received accolades and reward for the data chip they delivered: An estate on the local University of Astrophysical Sciences campus, an associated professorship at said university, and a megacredit annual stipend. For the secret deal, the Rogues got a huge chunk of cash and a specially designed Imperial style Stealth Scout ship, apparently identical to the one Vud inherited from Pollo.
After a nice shore leave in the City Among the Coulds, the Rogues double-jumped to the Debarre System. They shared a nice meal with the Baroness Harrison, owner of the planet, and Commadore Orkin’s former companion in the Rogues, Cyborgia, who had grown well acquainted with her over years as an aristocratic hunting guide on the planet.
Another week of shore leave for the crew and Captain Orkin and his Staff visit the hunting lodge and estate that Cyborgia shares with another former Rogue, the AI android Allie. Orkin tries to convince them both to rejoin the Rogues on their current great adventure. Allie is too busy to do so, but Cyborgia has been getting stir crazy after four years on the ground. She signs back up, and Orkin gives her the rank of Commander and assigns her to oversee the five Darrian Professors who signed on with the Rogues in Mire.
